Double Falsehood at the New Players
We repainted the floor to include the two permanent structural wall pieces that frame the stage. The tiling and floor pattern was extended to shape the door frame on stage right, while the Chapel took on its own space moving the coffin into the opposing doorway. The arched window above was included and decorated to hint at a religious structure.
The colour encroaching upon the structural wall and the stone work on the inside of the church window balanced the design against the new height that the players' stage presented. All colour work was suggestive of structure, but more a stylized implied rustic character than perfect recreation.
One audience member was overheard saying they weren't sure if I had painted on the stone work, or just run out of black paint painting over it. I took that as a compliment.
